Lego Robots

Towards the end of Term 2, the Year 5/6’s constructed Robots.

In groups of 3, we followed the online instructions to create our robots. We each had roles to complete which we swapped throughout the process. We then took turns to create Cose for the Robots which allowed them to move, change colour, make sounds, etc.

We had a great time and look forward to completing the next challenge during Term 3.

Inside Out

This term during SEL, we have watched Inside Out. It is about a girl named Riley who is 11 years old. She moves house and leaves her friends and most of her memories behind. The feelings in her head including joy, sadness, fear, anger and disgust work together to make Riley happy again. 

 

We have been talking about when we feel joy, sadness, disgust, fear and anger in our lives. This week, we created a class ‘Feelings artwork’. We chose the colours that best represent our current feelings and printed them onto small canvases.

Here are some of our feeling reflections…

I have felt sadness when I got into a fight with someone and couldn’t say sorry. I am sad when someone feels sad because of me. I feel sad when I have to choose between my friends. I have felt sad when I couldn’t talk to someone about my issues.

I feel fear when there is any test or exam coming up. There is too much pressure when there is only one day left to actually revise. When the day has come, my heart beats really quick. When I am fearful, I can forget quite a lot of things, even when I revised nearly ten times. Somehow when I am afraid in a test, my score usually ends up to be quite good.

I feel happy and joyful when everyone around me is happy and is enjoying themselves. When other people are happy, I can relax more. It’s kind of like the saying “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.” because if one person does not feel happy, or are not enjoying themselves, it spoils it not only for me but for the whole team. When everyone is happy, I’m happy.

Coach Approach

Last week the Year 5/6 students were involved in a 2 hour incursion run by Coach Approach.
We participated in Taekwondo, Soccer, Touch Football and Hip Hop dance.
Each of the rotations were great and run by elite Athletes. It was a fantastic morning with fun had by all of us!

Sovereign Hill 2016

A few weeks ago the Year 5/6 students traveled to Sovereign Hill for school camp.

Whilst on camp we had the opportunity to physically take part of the live musiam in which Sovereign Hill is. We occupied the four schools (Red Hill National School, St Peter’s, St Alipius and the Ragged School). We dressed up in what children on the 1850’s would have worn and acted as though we were actually children on the 1850’s.

During school hours we learnt about the 3 R’s – Reading, Writing, Arithmetic. We used ink, slate boards and sand boards, recited timestables, poems and some of us even sang.

Sir and Ma’am taught us how to pan for gold down at the diggings too!

We had a great time while away – lots of us wished we could have stayed that little while longer.

Play Your Part in a Better Internet!

We have been looking at ways we can stay safe on the Internet in preparation for ‘Safer Internet Day’.

We watched short video clips which taught us ways that we can remain safe whilst having fun and learning online.

We then designed Internet Safety Superheros and placed them on a poster.

We look forward to finding out who were the winners from our classes. Here are just a few poster! We will share the rest VERY soon.
