This term, we have been learning about Endangered Animals. We visited Healesville Sanctuary. This was where we encountered many Australian animals that are currently threatened or endangered.
We chose one of these to be the center of our research.
We were each given a grid to begin our planning. We jotted down information or keywords we came across whilst researching.
We then worked on writing paragraphs and understanding the structure of an Information Report.
We each write a Report about our chosen animal. We also used Google Drawing to create an Avatar of the animal. W
Check out our hard work!
On Monday 1st May, the 5/6 level traveled to Healesville Sanctuary to introduce this terms inquiry unit.
We were introduced to some of Australia’s most endangered species.
We got to have close-up encounters with some of them too!
One of the Sanctuary’s rangers told us what we can do it help endangered species.
Which was your favourite animal? Why? What was something you learnt whilst at Healesville Sanctuary?
What are some of the things we can do to support endangered species? Did you enjoy the day? Why? Why not?
We finally have our canvas painting ready to share at our assembly tomorrow. Mr Willie kindly gave our classes two sheets of plywood to mount our work onto. We hot glue gunned our canvas’ together to create two large artworks.
We are all VERY impressed with the final outcome! See what you think!
This term we are looking at Report Writing as part of our Literacy Block.
We have had to choose an Australian Endangered Animal that we would like to research. We have a four part project that we have begun.
Part 1 involves us answering a range of questions based on the terms endangered, threatened and vulnerable.
Part 2 involved us writing a written report.
We are using the structure below to write our report.
Here are the bones of what your written report should look like
Classification – introduce your animal (describe your animal: appearance, weight, size, where in the world is it found, etc.)
Paragraph 1 – Describe your animals habitat.
Paragraph 2 – Describe what your animal needs to eat to survive – include the animal’s food chain
Paragraph 3 – Explain why your chosen animal is endangered
Paragraph 4 – Write about an organisations that are helping the animal. Include information about what we can do to help this animal survive. You may like to include more paragraphs with additional information.
Conclusion – Remember this is OPTIONAL
Part 3 involves us writing a persuasive text about whether or not we think our chosen animal should be saved from becoming extinct.
Part 4 involves us designing and creating a model replicating the habitat our chosen animal lives in the wild.
