The Daily 5

This term we have been learning about the DAILY 5.

We have learnt about the first activity, Read to Self.
We learnt that we need to continually build our stamina when reading to ensure we are about to read for an extended period of time without distractions.
We now know how to put a good fit book. If we do this the books we borrow won’t be too easy or too hard – they will be just right!

Check out our reading corner. We love it!

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Pig the Pug – Book Week continued

As one of our Book Week activities we read the story, ‘Pig the Pug’.

We created our own pugs with our buddies using coloured squares of paper. It wasn’t as easy as it looks.

We also created our own version of the sequel to the story using Storybird. Check out some of our stories. There are many more to come.

Our Daily Literacy Rotations

This term, 5/6MA and 5/6WM have been working closely together. We have been following a program called ‘The Daily 5’ and have made it our own to suit our needs and the time we have. We complete four activities each time we complete our rotations. The activities are: Read to Self, Read to Another, Spelling and Writing. We choose in which order we complete the activities and choose what we do in spelling and writing based on the goals we have set for ourselves earlier in the year. Mrs Watkins and Mrs Mahney work with us based on our needs while we are all busy working.

What are you liking about the program and/or what would you change? Which of the four activities is your favourite/least favourite and why?

Please share you thoughts and ideas.
